There is only one true God (Isaiah 44:6). God revealed his name as Yahweh or Jehovah meaning I am (Exodus 3:13-15). In the Bible, God's holy name is not printed instead it is printed as "the LORD" (all capital letters).
God is one divine being, but three distinct persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit (Matthew 28:19). God is three in one, Triune. Each person is equal in power, eternity, and majesty. Although each person is fully God, there are not three gods but only one God. This is not explainable. It is the mystery of the Holy Trinity.
The Bible says that those who deny that God is the Holy Trinity are not Christians and do not worship the true God. No one worships God unless he believes that Jesus Christ is the eternal Son and our only Savior (John 3:16-18).
We reject those who teach that only the Father is God and that the Son and the Holy Spirit are not fully God. We reject those who teach that the true God may be referred to by names not revealed to us in Holy Scripture, such as the feminine designations Mother and Daughter.
We reject those who teach that God reveals himself in many ways such as the gods of Islam, Buddhism, Hinduism, or spirits of nature. We reject membership in secret lodges, such as the Masonic Lodge, because a condition of membership in secret lodges is to believe in a god and tolerate all religions. We teach that participation in the worship ceremonies of such lodges is idolatry, worshiping false gods (Exodus 20:3-6). |
