Have A Heart Packages Send Easter Greetings to Military Personnel
 |
When people at Peace Lutheran Church of Fort Atkinson want to reach out to their community with the love of Jesus Christ, they “Have a Heart! Give from the Heart! and Pray from the Heart!” The latest Have A Heart project was to send Easter gift packages to men and women serving in the military. It was a resounding success.
The Have A Heart project was co-sponsored by a local nursing home, Fort Health and Rehabilitation Center. Residents of the Alzheimer’s Care Unit (including two members of Peace) cut out paper valentine hearts and signed Easter cards. |

On two weekends in February, Peace members handed out wish lists to shoppers at Kmart, Shopko, and Walgreens in Fort Atkinson. They asked shoppers to purchase items from the list and donate them to Peace Lutheran Church - Have A Heart. The Lord greatly blessed this, because over 2800 personal care, food, and other items were donated. More than that, there were many conversations with people about Peace Lutheran Church, our respect for the men and women in the military, and our love for Christ. People showed their love and concern as they wrote messages to the soldiers on the paper valentine hearts.

There was a festive atmosphere in the nursing home when the residents, staff, and members of Peace packed some of the boxes. On the following Sunday, members of Peace with developmental disabilities packed the remaining boxes. Pastor Fehlauer opened both assembly line events with prayer. They thanked the Lord for the blessings and prosperity that He has given. They prayed that the men and women who would receive joy and peace from the boxes with the Valentines, Easter cards, letters, and personal care items. They asked the Lord to protect the soldiers, give them success in their work, enable them to do the Lord’s will and bring peace to those war-torn countries. They prayed that they would all come home safely. The Lord answered the prayers in one way, all the people who packed the boxes certainly had joy and peace from God that day.

Because of the community generosity and respect for our men and women in the military, Peace packed 154 boxes. God granted another blessing. John Schurrer and his staff at the USO of Wisconsin in Milwaukee agreed to mail the packages to military people overseas. The money donated for postage was used to buy 100 prepaid phone cards included in the overseas packages. |
Have a Heart succeeded beyond the 154 packages with Easter greetings sent to men and women in the military. Many people participated so that they could serve others in the name of Christ. Many others now know about Peace Lutheran Church. The project was a great success, beyond our dreams. We learn that we can do anything through the Lord who strengthens us. To God be the glory! |
