The Congregation at Prayer
Never worry about anything. But in every situation let God know what you need in prayers and requests while giving thanks. Then God’s peace, which goes beyond anything we can imagine, will guard your thoughts and emotions through Christ Jesus. (Phil 4:6-7, God’s Word)
Congregation Prayer Topics
Pray for the ministry of Peace Lutheran Church:
Ê That the Lord would guide the direction of ministry at Peace.
Ê That the Lord would give wisdom to enact the resolutions of the special voters meeting that we may do His will.
Ê That the Lord would help us to speak the truth to each other in love and be reconciled where we have sinned against each other.
Ê That the Lord would provide financial blessings to our members that they may in turn support the ministry of the Gospel.
Ê That each of us would learn to tell about our hope in Jesus.
Ê That each of us would use out time and talents for the benefit of the Church.
Ê That the new officers of the District would be blessed with wisdom and skill to perform their duties.
Pray for all members and friends of Peace.
Pray for people according to their needs:
Ê For protection of the men and women in the military:
Ê For those who mourn loved ones
Ê For those who need the LORD’s healing or consolation:
Verse of the Week
Ephesians 5:25-27 (ESV)
25 Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her, 26 that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, 27 so that he might present the church to himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish.
Psalm of the Week: Psalm 14
Reading from the Apology to Augsburg Confession - Article IV
However, the church is not only an association of external ties and rites like other civic organizations, but it is principally an association of faith and the Holy Spirit in the hearts of persons. It nevertheless has its external marks so that it can be recognized, namely, the pure teaching of the gospel and the administration of the sacraments in harmony with the gospel of Christ. Moreover, this church alone is called the body of Christ, which Christ renews, sanctifies, and governs by his Spirit as Paul testifies in Ephesians 1[:22–23], when he says, “And [God] has made him the head over all things for the church, which is his body, the fullness of him who fills all in all.” …
We have not said anything new here. Paul defined the church in precisely the same way in Ephesians 5[:26] when he says “in order to make her holy by cleansing her.” He also added the external marks, the Word and sacraments… We have repeated this statement almost verbatim in our Confession. The third article of the Creed also defines the church in this way when it enjoins us to believe that there is a “holy, catholic church.” Certainly the ungodly are not a holy church! Moreover, what follows, “the communion of saints,” appears to have been added in order to explain what “church” means, namely, the assembly of holy people [saints] who share in common the association of the same gospel or doctrine and the same Holy Spirit, who renews, sanctifies, and governs their hearts.
