Even though there are many Christian denominations, there is only one holy apostolic Christian Church. This Church is made of all people who have saving faith in Jesus and are justified by God through that faith (Ephesians 4:4-6).
We can find the Holy Christian Church where the Gospel is taught in its truth and purity and the Sacraments are properly administered according to the Gospel, because the Holy Spirit creates faith only through these means (John 3:5-8; Romans 10:13-17).
So, true believers in Jesus Christ gather with other faithful Christians and form congregations. They call pastors to administer the Office of the Public Ministry. They care for and encourage fellow believers in the true faith (Acts 2:41-47).
True believers may be found in all church bodies. Even if the Word of God is not taught purely in every part, if enough of the Word of God remains, the Holy Spirit may convert people and sustain their faith in spite of false doctrine (Isaiah 55:10-11).
God wants only His Word taught and believed in the Christian Church (John 8:31-32; 1 Tim. 6:3-5). Christians must distinguish between orthodox and non-orthodox church bodies (Matt. 7:15; 1 John 4:1-6). An orthodox church body is one whose public, published, and taught doctrine in all its articles proclaims the pure Gospel and whose administration of the Sacraments is right according to the Gospel. People confess that they agree with all the published and taught doctrines when they become members of a congregation.
