On the night before Jesus was crucified, He instituted a special meal as a means of giving the forgiveness of sins to those who trust in his death on the cross (Matthew 26:26-28). Jesus broke bread and said “This is my body.” Jesus blessed the wine and said, “This is my blood.” We believe that the true body and true blood of Jesus Christ are really present and received under the bread and wine that we eat and drink (Mark 14:22-24; Luke 22:19-20; 1 Corinthians 10:16; 11:23-29).
We reject the teaching of the Reformed denominations that the body and blood of Christ are not present, only bread and wine. We reject the teaching of the Roman Catholic church that an ordained priest changes the bread into Christ's body and the wine into Christ's blood so that there are no longer bread and wine but only Christ's body and blood (Transubstantiation).
