Coming to faith or conversion has two parts. First, a person learns from God's Law that he is a lost and condemned sinner. This causes him or her to be sorry and fearful before God (Psalm 32:3-5). The second part of conversion is faith in forgiveness and salvation only because of Christ's death and resurrection. This gives peace to the fearful heart and the desire to lead a godly life (Acts 2:37-39).
Because of Original Sin, our sinful human nature, we naturally don't want any relationship with God and don't turn to him in fear or sorrow. So, conversion is all God's loving work (John 1:10-13).
We reject any teaching that says people decide to accept Jesus as Lord, cooperate with God, change their attitude toward God, or stop willfully resisting God. This is why we don't call for people to "make a decision for Jesus" or "accept" Him. We will feel as if we make a decision when we are converted, but that acceptance comes after God has convinced us of our sins, changed our hard hearts, and helped us to believe in Jesus.
We also reject the teaching that says that God does not desire to convert all who hear the Law and the Gospel. God wants to save everybody (1 Timothy 2:3-4).
